Level 3 Paediatric First Aid

This 3 day course is designed for those learners wishing to become a paediatric first aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in industry.

Learners gaining this qualification will know that first aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. Topics within this course are regarded by the Early Years Foundation Stage as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are under the care of trained personnel.

It is supported by Skills for Care and Development, the Sector Skills Council for the social work, care and children’s workforces.

2 days.

Assessment

Practical demonstration and oral questioning.

Certification

Successful candidates will receive a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid valid for 3 years

Emergency Paediatric First Aid

  • The role and responsibilities of the paediatric first-aider
  • Assessing an emergency situation safely
  • Providing first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Providing first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Providing first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
  • Providing first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
  • Providing first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
  • Providing first aid to an infant and a child with anaphylaxis

Managing paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies

  • Administering first aid to an infant and a child with injuries to bones, joints and muscles
  • Administering first aid to an infant and a child with head and spinal injuries
  • Administering first aid to an infant and a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
  • Administering emergency first aid to an infant and a child with a chronic medical condition or sudden illness
  • Administering first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat or cold
  • Administering first aid to an infant and a child who has sustained an electric shock
  • Administering first aid to an infant and a child with burns or scalds
  • Administering first aid to an infant and a child who has been poisoned
  • Administering first aid to an infant and a child who has been bitten or stung
  • Administering first aid to an infant and a child with minor injuries
  • How to complete records relating to illnesses, injuries and emergencies
